Siv Spurgeon

Siv Spurgeon is a representational watercolor artist.  Her paintings often feature tightly cropped views of objects found in our everyday life.  She loves to capture the feeling of light and strives for a strong compostion of her subject matter.  Her training as an engineer may explain her love of drawing and her fondness for complex and highly detailed subjects.

Siv grew up in Stockholm, Sweden, and moved to the United States in 1967.  She exhibits widely and is a frequent award winner.  Prior to her recent move to Florida, she was very active in the Philadelphia art community and served two terms as the president of the Philadelphia Water Color Society.

"When I started to paint, I realized that I had finally learned to see.  I now marvel over that which I had never paid attention to before.  Light, color, pattern, depth, contrast, texture; this is what I love to paint.  Closely cropped views of my subjects often underscore this fascination  by eliminating less important, distracting elements.

Her work can be seen at P.A.St.A. Fine Arts Gallery.
